FaceBook Scam Threatens All...

There's new phishing scam targeting Facebook users. According to security firm Sophos' Nake Security blog, "Facebook phishing emails are threatening to delete users' Facebook accounts unless the victims pass along their account details within 24 hours."
The phishing messages are reportedly charging Facebook users with violating policy regulations by annoying or insulting other Facebook users. The messages are then said to ask for personal and financial information including Facebook login details and part of recipients' credit card numbers.

However, these emails are entirely bogus, warns the blog. They are not coming from Facebook. "Social media venues would not request financial information, nor would they request login details."
A typical phishing scam reads like this, according to the blog:

LAST WARNING : Your account is reported to have violated the policies that are considered annoying or insulting Facebook users. Until we system will disable your account within 24 hours if you do not do the reconfirmation.
Please confirm your account below:

According to the blog, recipients who click the link are shown a fake Facebook "Account Disabled" Web form. The form asks for Facebook login details including email, password, Facebook security question, Facebook security answer, the first six digits on the user's credit card number, and their country of residence.
Once the form is complete, the victims are taken to a second form labelled "Confirm to your webmail" that requests webmail programme and password. After this, the victims are take to a third bogus form, labeled "Terms of Service." This form again asks for user name and the first six digits of the user's credit card and warns victims that their accounts more or less will be lined up in front of a firing squad and shot at dawn unless they comply.
Another similar Facebook scam purporting to be from Facebook Security claimed to be watching out for users' accounts being accessed by unauthorized parties. Here's the text as per the blog:

Apple Top On The List For Customer Loyalty

Yes, Apple being beaten by Android in app. users, got a chance to come back with Customer Loyalty…Smile

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple is well ahead of rivals in building brand loyalty among its users in a mobile market where the key brands are rushing to build as large a foothold as possible, a study by research firm GfK showed.

Some 84 per cent of iPhone users said they would pick iPhone also when they replace their cellphone, while 60 per cent of consumers who use smartphones running Google's Android said they would stick with phones using the same software.
Only 48 per cent of people using Research In Motion's cellphones said they would stay loyal to their Blackberrys, the study showed.

Smartphone sales have been surging since Apple introduced its first iPhone in 2007 and even though the growth has slowed the sales still rose 49 per cent last quarter from a year ago, according to research firm IDC.
Ryan Garner, analyst at GfK, said the ongoing rush to build market position was crucial for the future success of the brands as on average 63 per cent of consumers are sticking to the type of phone they have -- lowering the chance for fast changes in the market place.
Garner said fast growth of Android and launch of new
Microsoft Windows, which will be similar for PCs, tablets
and smartphones, mean there are still opportunities for others.

"Apple is clearly ahead of the game, but developments next year will challenge that," Garner said.

More than 70 per cent of consumers said they would stick with their phones due to their seamless integration of features and access to content.
"The scope for brands to lure
customers
from rivals has diminished and the richest rewards will go to those providers that can create the most harmonious user experience and develop this brand loyalty," GfK said.

The research firm interviewed around 4,500 people in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, China, the United States and Japan.

How Facebook Tracks You?--Secret Revealed

Facebook has itself revealed its secret of tracking people...
According to USA Today, the complete picture how the social network keeps tabs on its 800 million users was revealed through series of interviews with the social networking site's engineering director, spokesman, corporate spokesman and engineering manager.

Facebook does not track everybody the same way, as it uses different methods for members who have signed in and are using their accounts, members who are logged-off and non-members.
The first time you arrive at any Facebook page, the company inserts cookies in your browser.
If you sign up for an account, it inserts two types of cookies and if you don't set up an account, it inserts only one of the two types.

These cookies record every time you visit another website that uses a Facebook "Like button" or other Facebook plugin, which work together with the cookies to note the time, date and website being visited.
Unique characteristics that identify your computer are also recorded.
Facebook keeps logs that records your past 90 days of activity and deletes entries older than 90 days, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

If you are logged into a Facebook account, your name, email address, friends and all of the other data in your Facebook profile are also being recorded.

Data about web searches and browsing habits could be used to figure out political affiliations, religious beliefs, sexual orientations or health issues about consumers...

Apple Lost Unreleased iPhone Once More

In a bizarre repeat of a high-profile incident last year, an Apple employee once again appears to have lost an unreleased iPhone in a bar.
The errant iPhone, which went missing in San Francisco's Mission district in late July, sparked a scramble by Apple security to recover the device over the next few days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

Last year, an iPhone 4 prototype was bought by a gadget blog that paid $5,000 in cash. This year's lost phone seems to have taken a more mundane path: it was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like.
While Apple has not publicly announced any plans for future phones, unconfirmed reports in the last few weeks suggest the launch date for the iPhone 5 is likely to be in early October. Other reports from Taiwan have set the date at September or October.
A day or two after the phone was lost at San Francisco's Cava 22, which describes itself as a "tequila lounge" that also serves lime-marinated shrimp ceviche, Apple representatives contacted San Francisco police, saying the device was priceless and the company was desperate to secure its safe return, the source said.

Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood, according to the source.
When San Francisco police and Apple's investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing, the source said. Before leaving the house, the Apple employees offered the man money for the phone no questions asked, the source said, adding that the man continued to deny he had knowledge of the phone.

Google Swiffy Converts Flash Content to HTML5

Google has launched a new thing, Swiffy..
With Swiffy, you can upload a SWF file, and Swiffy will produce an HTML5 version which will run in modern browsers with a high level of SVG support such as Chrome and Safari. It’s still an early version, so it won’t convert all Flash content, but it already works well on ads and animations. We have some examples of converted SWF files if you want to see it in action.

Swiffy uses a compact JSON representation of the animation, which is rendered using SVG and a bit of HTML5 and CSS3. ActionScript 2.0 is also present in the JSON object, and is interpreted in JavaScript in the browser. This representation makes the Swiffy animations almost as compact as the original SWF files.

Swiffy is a great example of how far the web platform has come. Swiffy animations benefit from the recent advancements in JavaScript execution speed and hardware accelerated 2D graphics in the browser.
